PENNSYLVANIA ACADEMY OF THE FINE ARTS – THE PLACE OF FACES
Opened in 1876 for the nation’s Centennial Exposition and World’s Fair, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts holds the distinction of being America’s oldest art museum. Designed by Frank Furness and George Hewitt, its unique architectural details make it the city’s finest example of High Victorian architecture. Housed at the Academy is a collection of artwork dating from 1720-1945 – and there are lots of faces on these walls! Thomas Eakins renowned The Gross Clinic, is one of many masterpieces by such famous artists as Mary Cassatt, Charles Willson Peale and William Rush, to name a few.
Though our setting is one of gracious elegance, the dress code for the reception will be casual -- we want you to wear comfortable shoes. The Academy is walking distance from the Philadelphia Loews Hotel and you will be doing a lot of walking once you get there. Enjoy an evening in one of the foremost collections of American art while you support the Cleft Palate Foundation’s services to families – oh, and sip some wine.
